Reed Holland

college student in Athens, Georgia

Throughout my whole life, I have always been a student that excelled in mathematics. Whatever subject it was in school dealing with math, I not only performed well, but also enjoyed it. When everyone struggled in geometry, I thrived. Both Algebra and Pre-Calc classes treated me well. Not only this, but I got involved in several math clubs, math honor society, and the Long Island Math Fair where I received a silver medal. The picture shown in my profile is a picture of my best friend and I (on the left) at high school graduation. In the photo I am wearing my math honor society, math fair, and math club chords. Although I soared in all things math throughout my schooling career, the one thing I could not tackle though was the mathematics section of the ACT. This one obstacle drove me absolutely crazy!

In the beginning, the math section of the ACT was extremely hard for me. Although it was a struggle early on, I said to myself that I know I can do well on it if I put in the work. With that being said, I practiced all topics dealing with the math section every opportunity I had the time to do so. This shows my dedication and how I will not stop until I master things. I would not quit until I got the score I desired.

I soon started to improve my score slowly with each test I took. Although I was improving, I still desired a higher score. With that being said, I finally achieved my goal and got a perfect score on the math section. I was thrilled as all my studying and hard work had payed off. I knew that if I put my mind to it I would do it, and once I did, I felt on top of the world.

I love being good with math as it helps me with everyday life. I am extremely good at problem solving, which helps me in many aspects of my life. Especially now, being in college, all academic topics having to do with numbers come easy to me. Yes I am a very good mathematics student, but it does not come without the hard work and effort I always put in.

This improvement in my score really helped me grow not only as a student, but as a person as well. This experience truly showed me the value of hard work pays off. Additionally, I love helping others, so tutoring in mathematics is a true joy of mine. I am lucky to be gifted at being good with numbers, but without my hardworking personality, I would not be the mathematics master I am today.
