Mike Reed

Hi, I'm Mike Reed. I grew up in the Hudson Valley, just an hour north of New York City. After earning my Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Providence College I moved to New York City and began working at IBM in Armonk, NY in their cyber-security unit. There, I experienced firsthand the rise of cyber-security as a critical issue of our time. With threats becoming increasingly sophisticated and solutions becoming more complex, I'm excited not only by the challenging, high stakes environment, but by the opportunity to help solve complex problems impacting business, government, and society. While at IBM I have taken every opportunity to extend myself beyond my controllership, forecasting, and advisory responsibilities to engage other areas of the business and learn more about the cyber-security landscape. With a deep passion for the space, and knowing that I enjoy leading teams and solving problems, I realized that I wanted to be more involved in influencing the long-term direction of the organization. To do so, however, I need to put myself in a more influential and broad-reaching position. Combining this insight with my professional experience I realized I wanted to leave Corporate Finance to pursue my MBA and transition into Corporate Strategy.

While work keeps me busy, I like to stay active in my free time. I spend most mornings triathlon training. I completed my first triathlon two years ago and am now working toward a half Ironman. I enjoy living in NYC and being able to take advantage of all the city has to offer, especially the food, but I also enjoy getting out of the city to go hiking. No matter where I am, I'm never far from basketball/a basketball court. Whether playing, watching, or coaching, I'm a basketball junkie. I'm a huge college sports fan, especially Providence Basketball/Hockey, and Texas Football. I do take time to give back to my community and am proud to be part of the PTECH program at IBM. Through this initiative, I have been serving as a mentor to a local high school student in a STEM focused education model.
