Dr. Regina Gavin Williams is a counselor educator, National Certified Counselor (NCC), licensed clinical mental health counselor (NC), qualified supervisor (NC), and holds a professional certification in school counseling (GA). She is the 2023 recipient of the Ella Stephens Barrett Award for Excellence in Professional Leadership (North Carolina Counseling Association), 2020 recipient of the Devoted Service Award (NC Counseling Association), the 2019-2020 recipient of the Chi Sigma Iota Distinguished Alumni Award (Nu Sigma Chi Chapter), and a 2016 NBCC Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Doctoral Fellow. She has presented at conferences on the local, regional, and national levels in the fields of counseling, career development, and higher education. Her research interests include the college and career readiness and adult self-sufficiency of adolescents aging out of the foster care system, training therapeutic foster caregivers, and assisting adolescents with post-secondary education and career decision-making. As an educator, Dr. Williams has instructed/co-instructed courses in the areas of counseling, education and diversity. She enjoys creating spaces for students to explore and celebrate their cultural differences, enhancing students' advocacy skills, and assisting individuals with making meaningful connections in their local communities. Dr. Williams also has a passion for supporting mothers of color. She currently serves on the community stakeholder advisory board for a ACURE4Moms, a study that aims to improve pregnancy outcomes and decrease health disparities, particularly for Black mothers. Dr. Williams was also appointed by NC Governor Roy Cooper to serve as the Chair of the North Carolina State Youth Advisory Council.
