Regina Hopkins

Denver, CO

Hi, I'm Regina, originally from Lakewood, Colorado. Home of no real natural lakes or "woods" so to speak, but, I digress. I'm supposed to be writing about my professional self here I suppose.... So, I went to Colorado State University, where I got my B.S. degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and then realized my true passion, so I stayed another two years to get a Master's degree in Counseling & Career Development. Then, reality hit. I got a job in the field of career counseling, just when the U.S. economy started tanking. I got laid off after six mo. at my first real "big girl" job at Jeffeerson County Workforce Center, and then took a few part time jobs that made me want to poke my eyes with pencils. Needless, to say. I couldn't stand them. It was then that I decided to do something vastly different with my life and something I'd always dreamt about. Live and work abroad. I got a CELTA certificate to teach English as a Second Language. E-mailed Universities in Thailand, one responded and, bam! Two weeks later I was on a plane flying half way around the world to start a new and exciting chapter of my life. Since, then I fell in love with Thailand. The people, the food, the simpler lifestyle. I really can't complain. And, I discovered I'm actually quite good at teaching and love the creative aspects of my job. I get to decide how to present new information to my students. And, I really like having a positive impact on people's lives. In the meantime, I continue to travel as much as possible. So far, I've been to 14 countries by solo backpacking, and actually am in the process of writing a book about it, which should hopefully be published within the next year (fingers crossed). By, the way, if you are a literary agent would like to sign me for a book deal, I'm all open for that! I'm also a hobbyist photographer and love talking with people from all over the world, and especially "creative-types." Anyway, that's barely scratched the surface, but definitely enough for an "intro" section!
