Reginald Clews

Canada

Raised in Canada and born to a mother who was a pianist and instructor, Reginald Clews grew up in a family deeply invested in classical music. In addition to his mother, Reginald’s grandfather and great grandfather were both conductors for the Maltese National Band. It was no wonder then that Reginald would take an immediate interest in music and become the fourth in his family to play music professionally. Beginning his musical training on the piano, at age 10, Reginald switched to the violin in a change that would prove permanent.

Blessed with a natural musical gift, Reginald exceled at the violin and by the time he’d reached college-age, Reginald had earned a chance to expand his talents at McGill University in Montreal. Here, Reginald studied with two distinguished mentors, Mauricio Fuks, now a Professor of Violin at Indiana University, and Richard Roberts, current Concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

With degree in hand, Reginald relocated to Southern California where he earned a teaching position as Head of Strings at The Encinitas School of Music in San Diego. It was at this time, while teaching at The Encinitas School, that Reginald’s prominence as a solo violinist began to spread. Reviews described him as “… a vivacious young performer [who] will certainly attract attention from classical music artists and instill the desire to perform in a new, younger generation of musicians”.

Enjoying a blossoming professional musical career, Reginald found himself a sought-after concert violinist with invitations to play as a guest solo violinist in symphonies and chamber groups ranging from San Diego to San Francisco. Reginald’s professional performances are numerous, but a few of his career highlights include his performance as a feature violinist with The Imperial Valley Symphony and with California Consort’s Seagate Concert Series at the Neurosciences Institute, in addition to his regular appearances with the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra.
