I started running four years ago and when I finally made it one whole mile without stopping it was a victory for me. Running was not intuitive to me, it was a struggle. A heaving, gasping, aching struggle. When I decided to run a half marathon it was a big goal for me and six months didn't seem like enough training time. Turns out it is plenty of time. :)
I've run countless races in the last 4 years. Just for the fun of it I've added the life long goal of running a race in every state to my bucket list. Destination runs motivate me to train and makes it a little easier for my husband to put up with my hours of training and occasional grumpiness when life interferes with my mileage. Since then I have done four destination half marathons and I've got a lot more to go!
Last night my husband (I suppose I should introduce him, blog meet my beloved Bill), and I were talking about the our next destination race. This year we're checking Idaho off our list. I say, "our list" loosely, Bill will run 5k's with me but more than that, he is driving. Bill loves to travel and is typically our travel planer (he's detail oriented, reliable, timely- pretty much everything it takes to be a responsible adult whereas I wing just about everything).
Finding good deals makes it possible for us to do these trips. We look into all aspects of our vacation races: hotels' vs. B&Bs' vs. camping; local eateries; good coffee shops; night life; outdoor activities and dog friendly places for the times we can bring the pups. Race reviews are not new to blogs but I am not just interested if the race started on time, I want all of the information. It's difficult enough to find unbiased, straight forward race reviews. I want to know about races in my back yard, I want to know about races in YOUR back yard!
So Bill suggested I write about our experiences in destination racing. I will share some of my daily life and talk about Bill, our four dogs, training and probably share too much about food. This is all a part of who I am. Don't worry though, if you are not a runner, I am not JUST a runner. Running is the smallest part of my life. Oh and you should know, this blog is not, "destinedtowin" for a reason, I am not a fast competitor. Alas, "destinedformediocracy" just didn't have the same ring. ;)
Thank you for visiting my blog. I would love to hear about races you've done, towns you love and tips on how to make the most of your town!
