An accomplished investment professional, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance, with a concentration in Real Estate from the University of Southern California, Rei Umekubo got his professional start in 1986 as an Acquisitions Officer with Robert M Bass Realty in Irvine, California. Over the years, he would oversee major real estate acquisitions and asset management with several Bass Brothers-related real estate fund vehicles, including Brazos Fund and Lone Star Opportunity Fund, and with MSREF in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Two of Rei Umekubo’s most famous real estate acquisitions are the Mitsubishi Headquarters Building in Tokyo, Japan ($1.4Bn) and Investa Property Group Companies in Sydney, Australia ($6bn), respectively. At one point, Mr. Umekubo oversaw the acquisitions and management of more than $8 billion in real estate assets and development projects across Asia, in Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Australia.

Rei Umekubo has served as Managing Partner of Pilot Capital Investments, LLC in Los Angeles, California, since founding the firm in 2011. Pilot Capital currently invests with a variety of institutional and high-net-worth clients and acquires and manages a range of retail, multi-family residential, office and industrial real estate assets. Pilot Capital also advises and acts as U.S. Representative for Daito Trust Construction Co., Ltd., one of the largest publicly listed (Tokyo Stock Exchange) multi-family residential developers in Japan. Centering its professional activities primarily in the western United States, Pilot Capital also has capitalized on investment opportunities in the boutique hotel industry.
