For many millenia people thought that spirits possess drugs and alcohol. Ingesting the drugs makes a spirit act through the person. People say that a doctor puts a spirit of healing (or killing) into a drug.

Sometimes a spirit of a friend acts through a drug, but sometimes it's a spirit of a competitor or enemy. When a spirit of a friend acts through a drug, a person has fairly pleasant experience, but there is more chance of addiction and lonely death. A person traded human connection for the intoxication, but more often a person is set up to kill themselves with intoxication.

When a spirit of an enemy or competitor possesses a drug, a person becomes "manic", agitated, paranoid or anxious. The drug becomes like a wild ride and may kill, humiliate and cause a variety of psychological and physical harms.

If you're a Muslim, ingesting liquor, the devil acts through you. Many Christians are welcoming of alcohol, and it can be a great social experience, but many get addicted because there is a spirit of Christ in the wine. Christ is a friend for the uneducated, me in particular. We spent lots of time together having a drink by ourselves.

If you are an amazonian shaman, drinking ayahuasca makes the spirit of the forest manifest in your visions. But many used ayahuasca to kill and do dark magic. Competing tribes and shamans often invented their own ayahuasca brews taming the spirit of the forest.

If you are a Christian, snorting cocaine, this means that you are abandoning your family's values, metaphorically saying that you are "with Cain", Co-Cain. The Bible says that the God sent Cain to travel to travel the world after the death of his brother Abel. Cocaine is a drug of betrayal for many Westerners. This is why a smart person knows that it's good to know when it's time to move away from the old protection of your friends, or abandon your old believes and the relationships that held you down. This is the wisdom of Cain.
