Rene Mclean

Rene Mclean has spent more than two decades dedicating himself to his life’s passion: music. He began his career as an intern at Virgin Records. After spending years at RCA and Elektra Records, where he helped revolutionize the marketing strategies of the music industry and almost single handedly invented modern field marketing, he moved to Interscope Records. When he left Interscope in 2000, to give himself over to the company he founded, RPM GRP, he did so as a Vice President. During his time with those esteemed and storied labels Rene played an instrumental role in the development of some of pop music’s most vital and trendsetting artists, including Eminem, Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes and many more. These were artists who defined a decade. And Rene helped define them.

Rene began the RPMGRP and quickly established himself as an independent visionary, creating the Mixshow Power Summit; an annual conference that helped position radio mixshow DJ’s as the industry influencers and making them celebrities in their own right. Such was the weight the Power Summit carried that projects by the likes of Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and Chris Brown leveraged it for a successful launch.

While RPM GRP and the Power Summit flourished, Rene continued to consult and advise artists in their careers, working with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Cam’ron, Kelis and Swizz Beatz. He went on to expand RPM GRP’s scope, consulting for brands such as Pepsi, Xbox, General Motors, HBO, Mountain Dew MTV. But the expansion didn’t stop there.

Utilizing the same forward-thinking vision he applied to record label marketing, Rene opened RPM MSC, a new kind of music company for a new kind of music industry. Rene created a new, nimble, fully-immersive company that specialized in discovering cutting edge new talent and guiding them to success. This is exemplified by Rene and RPMMSC’s shepherding of the electro-rap duo LMFAO, taking them from Internet obscurity to GRAMMY-nominated, global sensation.

RPM MSC is now nurturing the blossoming careers of some of pop’s newest and brightest talents, including Outasight, Maluca Mala, Leaf and The Underachievers.

Rene has strived to give back at any opportunity, partnering with the Red Hot Organization to combat AIDS with the Red Hot + Rap album. He also created The Rap Roast, which annually paid tribute to a hip-hop trailblazer. Honorees included Russell Simmons, Sean "P Diddy"Combs and Steve Rifkind.

Rene is a lifelong New Yorker and continues to live and work in the city he loves.
