Rene Velez, CPA is an accountant who runs a Certified Public Accounting firm in Miami, Florida. After many years in corporate environments, the enthusiasm of helping others in their business ventures lead to creating a business model that caters to startups and entreprenuers. Before graduating from Florida International University in the mid 80´s with his first degree in finance, Rene was performing systems implementation and project management installing computerized accounting systems. First working for a travel agency and then working for Turner Properties managing the accounting functions for an investment group that owned an office building with retail space and various multi family residential housing investments. After graduating, his experience with computerized accounting systems lead him to System One, a company that had a subsidiary in California which developed an accounting system for large corporate travel departments and Automobile Association of America travel agencies. In the late 80´s and throughout the 1990´s, Rene was back in Miami working in various real estate companies. Starting with the purchase of the Miami Center in downtown Miami for $118 million, Lincoln Properties hired Rene to set up accounting systems and controls for the new acquisition and later was handling the accounting for other landmark office buildings and shopping centers. His accounting career went on to work for other Florida real estate companies and investors. Some acquiring properties during the Resolution Trust Corporation's dispositions; a product of the Savings and Loan Bank crisis. Companies worked for included Residential Plaza at Blue Lagoon, Kendall Summit, Clinton International Group, The Cornerstone Group, Lefmark Group, SMG Facility Management. Property types managed and developed included commerical office buildings, shopping centers, multi family housing, tax credit and bond financed affordable housing, assisted living facilities and the 15,000 seat Miami Arena. The original home of the Miami Heat and Florida Panther Hockey team as well as host to numerous concerts, Disney on Ice and Barnum Bailey Circus performances. In 1992, Rene earned a second degree from Florida International University In Accounting and in 1994 became a Georgia Certified Public Accountant. By the early 2000, Rene was inadvertantly transitioning into self employment, into the accounting, tax and consulting practice he owns today.
