Renjie Butalid is an entrepreneur with a passion for social entrepreneurship and social innovation.
Renjie is Head of Global Expansion at NextDayBetter, a creative speaker and food series for diaspora communities. With events in New York City, Toronto, Los Angeles, London, Manila and more, NextDayBetter believes that diasporas like the Philippines global community are hubs and inspirations for world-changing ideas.
In addition, Renjie is Director of Ventures at Igniter, a digital and social innovation agency. He currently leads marketing and customer acquisition for PINE, an Igniter venture. Previously, he led the socialsca.pe global mapping project at Igniter, in collaboration with the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, MaRS, Ashoka and CatalystsX.
Renjie is on the Board of Directors of the Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts & Culture in Toronto. Renjie is also a Global Shaper at the Toronto Hub with the World Economic Forum.
A Third-Culture Kid (TCK) currently based in Toronto, Renjie has lived, studied, volunteered and worked across Canada, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Hungary and the Philippines. This includes working with Social Innovation Generation, the Institute for Social & European Studies, the Philippine Centre for Islam & Democracy, and the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders.
Renjie was previously co-founder of Togethr and was also a TEDx organizer with TEDxWaterloo, TEDxYouth@Waterloo, TEDxUW and TEDxAlAin.
Renjie holds a BA Economics from the University of Waterloo and is pursuing an MA International Relations from Corvinus University of Budapest.
In 2012, Renjie was named 40 Under 40 by the Waterloo Region Record.
