Timothy Gibbons
journalist in Jacksonville, Florida
Timothy Gibbons is editor in chief of the Jacksonville Business Journal, overseeing coverage at the premier source of business news throughout Northeast Florida.
He moved to that job after serving as business editor of the Florida Times-Union, a newspaper for which he worked for more than a decade.
He took over the editing job after several years covering Jacksonville's consolidated city/county government with a focus on the executive branch, where budget challenges, pension issues and economic development concerns are paramount.
Before taking over that beat, he covered military affairs for the Times-Union, writing about the area's Navy bases and large veteran community as well as broader issues that affect active-duty and retired military personnel. Previously, he covered international trade and transportation, helping readers in Northeast Florida connect to the global economy.
Prior to joining the paper in 2002, he was an editor at Oskar's, a bilingual magazine based in Hamburg, Germany. He had also written for the News-Journal in Daytona Beach, Fla., the News-Herald in suburban Cleveland and the Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., as well as freelancing for newspapers and magazines in the United States and Germany.
