Resham shilpi
Artist and Small Business Owner in Kolkata, India
In Bengal the art and craft of weaving silk came alive in the 13th century, during the Bengal Sultanate. An art of that travelled all the way to Europe, caught the imagination of her people with its versatility and durability, and flooded her markets.
Years later, on 28th January, 1958, Resham Shilpi Samabaya Mahasangha, a State Level Apex Cooperative Society that would look into the interests of Bengal’s silk weavers, farmers and buyers, and carry on Bengal’s legacy in sericulture for years to come, came into being. Today, Resham Shilpi while draping the world in the lightweight beauties from Bengal, ensures that the eight distinctive silk sarees from Bengal continue to tell the story of Bengal silk.
You will fall in love with the untwisted nature of Bengal silk. The effortlessness of its fall and the almost instinctive way it drapes around you. You can visit my website with a click on the button above.
