One of the main objectives of schools today is to come out successful, effective members of society; kids that will one day be leaders of our country, states, towns, or communities. Whether our youth become actors, athletes, attorneys, health practitioners, electricians, plumbers, or cops, they will affect society in general and lead others by example. Atlanta Public Schools are trying their hardest to provide students not only an education, but an education that also includes group assistance giving to others by doing for others who can not do for themselves. Atlanta Schools particularly high schools are requiring students to be involved in community service projects included in their training. Todays era of Atlanta Schools students, Generation Me known, are studying the value of helping others.

A recent study done by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement showed that 80 85% of incoming school freshmen have community service experience before you start their degree. That's a 66% increase on the previous study completed in 1989. Mark Lopez, the facilities study manager says the increase could be interpreted to imply that students are increasingly being confronted with charities and charitable companies at a younger age than they were in the past. Atlanta Schools seem to recognize this, and are pushing for their students to get more involved in community service projects, whether its a day or two employed in a kitchen, reading to the blind, or becoming a Government or Big Sister. The choices are nearly unlimited, and need simply to be matched to an Schools students interests.
