Between my empathy, intellect, "creative logic," and ability to see at least a glimmer of hope while constantly being in possession of a half-empty glass, I come from the mindset that there is a potential solution to improve almost any problem. The aforementioned combined with my experience and interests in public/mental health, social affairs, politics, community outreach, and foreign languages and cultures is leading me to pursue a career in the realm of international affairs and human rights.
I'm aiming to ultimately relocate to the European Union/Latin America. I speak English and Spanish fluently and have varying amounts of knowledge of a few other languages. Currently, I am learning more about location-independent self-employment for writing and translation (Sp/Fr/En), not a day goes by that I'm not working to improve my skill sets in these fields. This is not a substitute for my career goals, but as an attempt to ensure that I always have some source of income. The ability to freelance is almost a necessary evil in this global economic environment.
I try to laugh everyday, even if it is just at myself. After speaking during an American Psychological Association (APA) conference a few years ago, I was advised to be "a stand-up comedian if the doctorate doesn't work out."
