Reverend Evan D. Howard of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, serves as a pastor and and is also a published author. He has led the Community Church of Providence for over 20 years and has written several nonfiction and fiction books featuring Christian themes. Perhaps the most notable of these works is The Galilean Secret (Guideposts Books 2010). This novel shares a fictional letter that Jesus Christ wrote to Mary Magdalene and was read by the "good thief," who repented on the cross. Reverend Evan D. Howard has also written four nonfiction books about Christian principles, healing, and prayer.

Reverend Evan D. Howard developed his writing while attending a Guam high school and the University of Washington. While in college, Howard witnessed a drowning while working as a lifeguard. This event gave him awareness of his calling. Subsequently, Reverend Howard won a scholarship to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. Afterward, he served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge while a student at Boston University School of Theology. Reverend Evan D. Howard earned his Th.D in 1988 and moved to Rhode Island’s Community Church of Providence, which is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA.

With the goal of renewing the church, Reverend Evan D. Howard has helped develop many programs, such as educational forums on psychoanalyst Carl Jung, Baptist history, the historical Jesus, and other topics. He has also led building campaigns and community outreach efforts. Another project involves guest speakers on subjects such as services to the under-served, publishing, and diet and health. Reverend Evan D. Howard has promoted interfaith understanding, helped the homeless, visited the sick, and led missions to the Dominican Republic. For these and other efforts, the American Baptist Churches recognized the congregation as the denomination’s first “New Life 2010” church.

Outside of his work, Reverend Evan D. Howard pursues activities, including swimming, jogging, biking, and reading. He enjoys walking on the beach and watching sunsets.
