Life is short and every moment is worth cherishing. Because of that, I aspire to become an Emergency Medicine Doctor. There may be people who find it insane that someone would want to work in an emergency room, being surrounded by sickness and death every day, but that is exactly why I find it worthwhile. By providing immediate, life-saving care, I could be the reason that someone gets to live another day. Another day that is spent with the people they love and doing the things that fill them with joy.
Of course, the journey to becoming an Emergency Medicine Doctor is a long and competitive one: a four-year bachelor’s degree in biology, four years of medical school to become a Doctor of Medicine, passing medical licensing exams, a three-year emergency medicine residency, and state licensing. This process will be exhausting, but I am determined to achieve my dream.
When people arrive at an emergency room, it is never certain whether they will be able to leave alive. Emergency rooms tend to be people’s last resort for survival, and I want to be a part of that final recourse. Doing everything possible to save lives and making sure death is as comfortable as possible are both aspects of the job.
This career can be tough, but someone has to do it. The world needs people to sacrifice their comfort for the benefit of society. I am willing to put in the hard work if it means I can extend my help to as many people as possible—especially to those who need it most.
