Hi! My name is Reyna. I have the spirit of a dreamer, a philosopher’s insatiable appetite for understanding, and a writer’s need to tell stories.
A disruptor of the status quo since age 12 when my father asked me if I was a conformist or non-conformist, I have been guided in my career by a set of beliefs that if you don't like something, change it.
I don’t like that advances in medicine and science have not translated into better health outcomes for Americans. Could it be that public health has a storytelling problem? I’m set on finding out.
I’ve spent the past 10 years working at the intersection of journalism and public health in an effort to tell better health stories. My early years were spent grinding as a general assignment reporter in mid-Missouri and writing for local newspapers. I currently produce digital health communication strategies for public health in Atlanta, Ga.
My desire for impact led to a coming together of prominent scientists and journalists to form a media advocacy group in an effort to diversify science and health news. We pitch, write and advocate for better science and health news.
If you are interested in disrupting health communication and journalism, contact me and let’s change the narrative about what health is!
