Robert Fortinsky

Born August 11, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Father:Jacob Fortinsky Mother: Dora Popky Fortinsky.Graduated from E.L.Meyers High Schooll June 1942. Attended Pennsylvania State University (Chemical Engineer ) June 1942to May 1944.U.S.Army June 1944 to August 1945(Infantry-Camp Croft, South Carolina) Officer Training at Chemical Warfare OCS in Maryland. Commisioned 2nd Lieutenant September,1945.Attended Command and Staff course until December,1945. Went overseas December,1945 -landedin France and was sent to Paris. Transfered to Kassel Germany ,commanded an Ordnance Company.returned to U.S.September 1945,returned to Penn State -reeived degree in Chemistry Feb,1946. Married Shirley R.Fortinsky April,1947.we have two daughters,Judith,and Jill. Seven Grand children and Three Great Grand Children. Worked in family weaving mill until November 1949. Started FORTUNE FABRICS,INC. in Nov.1949 and continued to date(63 years Nov,2012!) Received Private pilots Licence 1950, Instrument pilot licence 1956. Was president Temple Istael,Chairman of the Board Temple Israel,President Jewish Community center,UJA chairman two times. PennState Wilkes-Barre Advisery Board -Chairman of PSU Advisory Bd. Placed on PennState Board of Directors by Governor Ridge in April.2000. Served until Sept 2005.helped raise fund for the Association of the Blind Campaign chaired by my wife Shirley. Blind Assoc. put our names on the building after a succesful campaign. received Ditinguished Alumni Award,Psu,Founder Psu Bryce Jordan Hall, Dediated TV room at PSU radio,Contributed five Scholar ships to PSU, One to Wilkes University where I also served on the board of directors, one to King College,one to Luzerne Community College.
