Burlington, Vermont, United States
I was born and raised in a suburb just outside of NYC. I earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in American Literature and Writing, as well as a Master's Degree in Education at the University of Vermont. I've taught High School Special Education and Career Education for over 25 years. I have been instrumental in moving our school forward with Differentiated Education, intergrating technology as a tool for instruction and collaboration, and focusing on 21st Century skills for all of our students.
Although I'm a native New Yorker, I chose to stay in Burlington, VT, where I've raised my 2 daughters, 2 cats and a dog. My husband and I enjoy liveing here for many reasons, including the beauty of the lake and mountains. Although many think of Vermont as rural, I live within a mile of 5 colleges (which I utilize by taking post graduate classes regularly). Burlington boasts a rich of music scene (think: Grace Potter; Phish; The Vermont Symphony Orchestra) and other many other cultural offerings. I also thrive on being part of a healthy, athletic community.
I have completed 6 marathons in the last 9 years, qualifying for Boston in all, and placing 2nd in my division in 3. I run for the joy and freedom it allows me. It also keeps me outdoors in the cold Vermont winter months. I think the physical exertion of running keeps my mind sharp.
My husband's roots are in the tropics. He was born in Venezuela, and moved to the States as a child. He works as a design engineer for a large computer company, and holds a PhD. from Stanford University.
6 years ago, on a vacation, we fell in love with Rincon, Puerto and decided to purchase a 2nd home there. Since that time, we have become Scuba Divers, and delight in the other-worldliness of the deep Caribbean ocean! We rent our home in Rincon to vacationers when we are not there. I have taken marketing classes, and have achieved excellent results in keeping our beautiful home rented, by the week, to traveling families.
Now that our children are grown, I like to spend my spare time reading, running, studying technology, and trying to learn to speak Spanish. I think of myself as a life-long learner.
