RUSABI HAMISI

Student, Consultant, and Project Manager in DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA

Rusabi Hamisi Othuman is a dedicated social worker and researcher from Tanzania with a strong commitment to promoting social justice, health equity, and community well-being. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam (2022) and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work at the Institute of Social Work, Dar es Salaam.

Rusabi is a Program Officer at the Methadone Family Against Drugs Abuse (MEFADA), where he works under the CUTTS Hepatitis C Project in Kinondoni District. His work focuses on harm reduction, hepatitis C prevention, and improving health outcomes among people who inject drugs (PWIDs). He has also been involved in community-based projects such as the Social Lab Program in Iringa, Mtwara, and Tanga, which engages communities in participatory problem-solving and social innovation.

In recognition of his academic excellence and leadership potential, Rusabi was awarded the RESILIENT Project Scholarship (2024–2025) to support his postgraduate studies. He has also been shortlisted for the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship (2024), reflecting his dedication to leadership and transformative social change.

Rusabi’s research interests center on elderly welfare, mental health, and harm reduction. His current academic research explores social support for older people living alone in rural areas, with a case study of Kising’a Village in Iringa, Tanzania.
