Born and raised, in Falmouth, Trelawny, Rhon Matthison began his musical journey at his home church where he was introduced to the instrument that would later become his passion.

In 2005, Rhon was asked to be the bassist for gospel artiste Lieutenant Stitchie—an appointment where he would hone his artistry and expertise on stage. Since then, Rhon has played with several major reggae gospel artistes on tours and shows across the globe. His travels have covered almost all Caribbean countries, North America, South America and Africa.

He Has performed with international artistes: Cece Winans, Byron Cage, Ricky Dillard, Jonathan Nelson, Alvin Slaughter, Helen Baylor, Ashaala Shanae, Sinach and popular Jamaican artistes: Sizzla Kalonji, Max Romeo, Andrew Tosh, Pam Hall, Dwayne Stephenson, Wayne Wonder, Christopher Martin, Ghost, D. Major, Ikaya, Chevelle Franklyn, Kevin Downswell, I Wayne, Prodigal Son, DJ Nicholas.

A well-rounded musician, his fingerprint as a producer and bassist is evident on works and collaborations with some of the biggest names in Jamaican gospel and popular music including Stitchie, Prodigal Son, Jason Mighty, Shepherd, Sherwin Gardner, J Prince, Marion Hall, Christopher Martin and the JCDC Jamaica Gospel Competition Finalists.

Rhon has been the Band Leader of choice for artistes who want to put forward their musical best on stage. He has demonstrated distinguished musical leadership as band leader and musical director, working with various artistes such as Kevin Downswell, Christopher Martin and Chevelle Franklin to shape the arrangements, musical interpretation and ensure the delivery of a quality musical experience.

Well known for his exceptional musicianship and penchant for quality, Rhon is proficient on the 4, 5, and 6 string bass and favours the David Eden and Ampeg SVT 4 Pro amps and prefers Fender Jazz Bass or Ibanez Bass as his instrument of choice.

Rhon’s dedication to music, his passion for excellence and his unique style of self-expression through music are the elements that drive him and set him apart. He exemplifies at the highest level, the work of a talented and dynamic Jamaican bassist, producer, band leader and music director.
