Riadel Manzano
Senior Aircraft Mechanic in East Williston, New York
My name is Riadel Manzano, and I’ve been an aircraft mechanic for over a decade. Growing up in East Williston, New York, I was captivated by planes soaring overhead. That curiosity led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, where I earned my Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification in 2009. As one of the few women in my program, I felt both challenged and inspired to prove myself in a male-dominated field.
I began my career at Horizon Regional Airlines in Albany, performing engine diagnostics, troubleshooting avionics, and completing airframe repairs. In 2015, I joined Northeast Commuter Airways, tackling more complex maintenance tasks and earning the "Excellence in Aircraft Safety" award in 2016. Since 2018, I’ve been a Senior Aircraft Mechanic at Skyline Airlines, based at LaGuardia Airport, where I handle intricate repairs, mentor junior mechanics, and ensure every plane meets the highest safety standards.
This job isn’t easy. Long hours, high stakes, and demanding environments are part of the territory, but knowing I help keep flights safe makes it worthwhile. Outside of work, I’m passionate about mentoring young women in STEM and encouraging diversity in aviation.
In my free time, I enjoy building model airplanes, exploring aviation museums, and hiking Long Island’s scenic trails. Looking ahead, I’m eager to specialize in emerging technologies like hybrid aircraft and create opportunities for the next generation of mechanics. The sky, truly, is the limit.
