Riaz Mamdani is the founder and CEO of Strategic Group, a Calgary based real estate development company that owns and manages numerous properties across Canada. In addition to real estate, Strategic Group is a robust investment company with subsidiaries spanning a variety of industries, including construction, building services, oilfield services, hospitality, petcare, agriculture technologies and corporate finance. Established in 2001, Calgary’s Strategic Group has seen exponential growth and diversification under Riaz Mamdani’s guidance.
Holding a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba, Riaz Mamdani worked as a hospital pharmacist while attending the University of Calgary in pursuit of a law degree. Earning his law degree in the late 1990s, Mamdani went on to practice corporate, commercial and securities law in Alberta before becoming a successful businessman.
Since Strategic Group’s inception, Mamdani has utilized his legal skills and background to expand and develop the company’s business portfolios and holdings. Previous to that, he used his broad knowledge of finance to advance two separate companies from their conception and infancy stage into international multi-million dollar corporations.
Known for pushing the envelope and thinking outside the box, Riaz Mamdani is behind some of Strategic Group’s highest portfolio acquisitions, including the current $130 million dollar project called ‘One’ in Calgary’s southwest. Mamdani’s, high-energy personality, coupled with his business expertise, has helped to position him as an expert in his field; this has also resulted in him frequently being invited as a media consultant and interview source.
In addition to his business endeavors, Mamdani is a well-known philanthropist who is passionate about giving back to his community. In 2012, he spearheaded Strategic Lets Eat! Campaign, an annual food drive held in June. In 2015, through a four-day food drive held at company headquarters and the property management offices owned by Strategic Group, Riaz Mamdani was able to collect over four thousand pounds of food and he also matched cash donations in to further show his support to this well needed community organization.
