Ricardo Herrera
Pianist and Composer in Morelia, México
I am a mexican self-taught pianist, percussionist, composer and arranger, and graphic design enthusiast, born –and currently living– in Morelia, Michoacan, México. I am also my own graphic designer.
I learnt to play keyboard since age 8, although I had my first contact with an acoustic piano till age 15 at high school.
I started composing –for the love of it– at age 20. My compositions are mainly among the instrumental, acoustic, 'solo piano' and classical-contemporary genres, although I also like to dive into New Age and Smooth-Jazz genres as well.
I've composed and released three instrumental music albums so far: «One Letter» (2017), «Domino» (2018) and «Albatross» (2019), each recorded at Labyrinth Studio (Morelia), premiered live at the Nicholaitian Auditorium (UMSNH) and published as independent projects.
I've played live events across my state (Michoacan) and country (Mexico) at various venues, for example, Nicholaitian Auditorium (Morelia), UNAM's UAC Auditorium (Morelos), Workmen's Theater (Zamora), CECULCA-1814 (Apatzingan), Morelos Theater (Maravatio), UNAM's CAC Concert Hall (Juriquilla, Qro) and the Public Library (San Miguel de Allende, Gto), among piano-bars, restaurants, cultural centres and other venues on my behalf. My ensemble and I have participated at the 30°, 33° and 34° «Miguel Bernal Jimenez» Morelian Music Festival.
My favorite composers are Peter Kater, Yiruma, Ludovico Einaudi, David Lanz, David Benoit, Russell Freeman, Efren Capiz, Ben Cosgrove, Emma Johns, Christine Brown, Yanni Chrysomallis, Andreas Vollenweider, Zbigniew Preisner, John Barry Slimp, John Williams, John Burke, Kyle Landry and Olafur Arnalds, to name a few.
