Ricardo Rieppi, Ph.D.
Psychoanalyst and Psychologist in New York, NY 10019
I help adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem that make it difficult to hold boundaries and experience healthy relationships. In a safe and collaborative space, we explore their experiences using psychodynamic therapy that fosters self-awareness and a new understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. We then use solution focused CBT techniques combined with mindfulness practices to empower them with confidence building strategies, enhanced self-image, and boundary setting tools. Through our work together, my clients come to know and love who they are, trust their instincts, and feel comfortable asserting themselves in order to live a life they love and makes them proud.
I also help Hispanic, bicultural adults in New York City who struggle with acculturation, leading to emotional burdens like depression, anxiety, grief, guilt, and relationship conflicts. My culturally competent, bilingual approach integrates bicultural therapeutic skills within a psychodynamic framework. My clients learn to successfully adapt to dual cultural environments and cultivate harmonious cultural identities. They acquire valuable bicultural coping skills that allows them to thrive in both worlds.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and certified psychoanalyst. I completed my Clinical Psychology doctorate at St. John’s University in 2003, a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the William Alanson White Institute in 2007, and subsequently completed formal psychoanalytic training at NYU’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis in 2018. I have published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Community Mental Health Journal, Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, and Psychosomatic Medicine. My most recent publication is a chapter on Shopping Addiction in the book, "Beyond the Primal Addiction." I am a member of the American Psychological Association and Division 39 (Psychoanalysis), New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA), and International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP).
