Riccardo was born and raised in Northern Italy, in the small town of Medicina, just outside the metropolitan city of Bologna, home to the oldest university in the world.
This intellectually rich and culturally vibrant region had a profound influence on Riccardo’s artistic sensibility.

Forever drawing as a child, Riccardo always dreamed of becoming a cartoonist and began publishing satirical illustrations in local newspapers at a young age.
After completing five years of high school, he enrolled at the University of Bologna, the world’s oldest and one of its most prestigious universities. There, Riccardo deepened his knowledge of contemporary art, design, architecture, and photography.

At 24, he was drafted for Italy’s mandatory year of military service. Initially trained as a communications specialist, his commanders soon recognized the creative energy—and occasional chaos—of his artistic mind, and reassigned him to one of the most coveted posts in the regiment: coffee barman to the Army General.

Then the fashion dominos began to fall. The layouts Riccardo created for newspapers caught the attention of Limoni, one of Italy’s most prestigious perfumery brands. Around the same time, Art’è (“art is”), Europe’s leading art publisher, came knocking.
Through Art’è, Riccardo began assisting Gavino Sanna, one of the world’s most celebrated—and Italy’s most gifted—creative directors. Only the most talented were invited to work with this master, and Riccardo proved himself worthy. He was entrusted with high-profile assignments, including photo retouching and layout design for the Art’è president’s portrait with Pope John Paul II—a remarkable responsibility, particularly in Italy, where such projects carry immense prestige.

In 1999, at age 33, Riccardo experienced both the most inspiring and the most challenging moments of his life. Riding the momentum of his growing success in the Milan fashion industry and his collaboration with Gavino Sanna, he opened his own design studio—Studio Sabioni. There, he built a small team of three production artists and began serving prestigious clients across fashion and design. Then came the fall.
