Richard Brown

My checkered past prepared me to lead the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home in Denton, Texas. I've worked as a minister, a hospital & hospice chaplain, an office practice & litigating attorney, a pastoral counselor, a Barnes & Noble bookseller, a public school & church custodian and the general counsel for the National Health Insurance Company. But the core of my diverse education and experience has been the goal of implementing timeless values into a contemporary setting.

The scope and impact of trauma on the lives of youth and society have never been greater. But the resources have never been more plentiful. Kid Resilience theory by Dr. Michael Ungar, Love & Logic parenting training by Dr. Charles Fay, solution and strength focused theory by Insoo Kim Berg, Steve deShazer and others building on the systems work of Virginia Satir, Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson, as well as the whole movement of trauma informed care theory growing out of post Iraq and Afghanistan war trauma offer more understanding and help for victims than ever before.

Together we end abuse and neglect. We do that at Cumberland one healing relationship at a time. Join us on the journey.
