I’m Richard Bernstein, a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court and an advocate for disability rights. Born legally blind, I have built my career on promoting access, fairness, and inclusion under the law. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan and earned my law degree from Northwestern University. Before joining the court, I practiced civil rights and disability law, including landmark cases improving accessibility at major public venues. I was elected to the Michigan Supreme Court in 2014, becoming the first blind justice in the state’s history.
