Richard B. Jefferson, Esq.

Los Angeles, California, United States

Richard co-founded M.E.T.A.L. Law Group, LLP in 2003. He and his law partner thought that the traditional way that law firms named themselves was dated (name, name & name) so they decided to brand the firm with an acrynym that represented its clientele (media | entertainment | technology | action sports | lifestyle brands).

Richard has extensive experience in putting together ventures, negotiating deals, managing intellectual property portfolios, and protecting brands within many different fields, including music, television, film, fashion/apparel, animation, e-commerce, video gaming, beverage, and interactive entertainment. Over his career, he has represented entertainers, athletes and entrepreneurs in negotiations with major companies, including Universal Records, Universal Music Publishing, Capital Records, EMI Publishing, Warner Brothers Records, Warner-Chappell Music, Electronic Arts, PepsiCo, Disney, Nickelodeon, Summit/Lionsgate, E! Entertainment, Comcast Entertainment, NBCUniversal, Nordstrom, Sony Music Entertainment, Pioneer, Tapout, Intuit, Tru TV, Discovery Communications, and OWN Network.

Richard is an active member of the Intellectual Property Law section of the California State Bar, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. (The Grammys), and serves on the Entertainment Alumni Association Board of Directors for the Biederman Entertainment and Media Institute.

He earned a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University and received his Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School where he participated in the prestigious accelerated two-year SCALE program.
