General Manager, Our House Furniture, Manquin, VA. I grew up in Virginia and have lived in Chicago and Pennsylvania but my heart belongs to Virginia. I have worked in several industries over the years but home furnishings has always been my first love. It's changes constantly, which most people hate but I love. Never gets boring. I work with a group of people now who like my ideas of how to sell furniture for a lot less than other stores and make people happy rather than pressure people when they come in and convince them if they don't buy today they will lose money, forcing people to make a decision when maybe they aren't ready to, and possibly have a unhappy customer because they bought something they really don't like. We specialize in making the customer happy, finding the perfect furniture for their home and then seeing how much we can save them instead of how much we can make. It works and we are successful because we are here for the customer, not the other way around. People seem to think furniture stores have 300% markup. That's simply not true. I have never worked anywhere that marked their furniture up that high. I have worked in stores with 100% markup. Now that's true. We honestly work to see how low we can go, and we go very low. We save people money, we sell them what they really want, not what we have and we have fun doing it. We aren't taking money away from our customers, in a sense we are giving them money. Money to save, money to get something else with, money to do what they will with. I am loving the furniture business now because what I have known would work is in place and working beautifully and we make people happy with every purchase.
