Richard Rummery
Armidale NSW, Australia
Based in Armidale, I write, perform and produce my own albums, operating under the psuedonym ftprints11. Mainly self educated, I played bass, then guitar and keyboards (sometimes drums) in my teens. After studying audio engineering in Sydney at 15 I formed several line-ups with Matt Hirst and David Morris including Primate, White Noise, Here and Now, playing a progressive rock fusion tinged with new wave elements. We recorded demos in our own 4 track studio, and I have continued this work using whatever equipment I could get starting with cassette and 4 track systems in the late 70s and early 80s and progressing to digital technology in the early 90s. In 84 I joined pop/rock band Shooting School (with ex-British band Strapps singer Ross Stagg) signing to Polygram and Castle Music (EMI). After touring with Dragon (Body and the Beat tour) and despite the great hopes for the band they split up soon after the first single and clip was released. Write and demoed thoughout the late 80s - whilst battling herion addiction - I enjoyed a stint with Barry Ferrier's Giant Steps based near Byron Bay in 87-9, before moving back to Armidale to form my first original band Rum Company. I studied audio engineering again and enrolled at UNE in 99 to do philosophy and music. I served 3 years in prison from 99-2002, a 'model prisoner', I spent much of the time in the recording studio working on multiple productions involving inmates plus my own (I recorded 3 ftprints11 albums there). This resulted in the Corrective Services sanctioning and funding the release of an extrordinary multi-cultural double album of 'world pop' - inspired music produced entirely by inmates- a world first. The CD, called Bravo! led to the inmate collective, aptly called Freedom of Expression, to be invited to perfom at the opera house as part of Carnavale. Sadly, permission was withdrawn by the minister at the last minute, over-riding the Wardens discretion, which cause heated debate. Produced 'News from the war on drugs' for ACT radio 2XXXFM. I completed my PhD studies in philosophy in 2010, then researching and writing extensively on the concept of Narcissism and subsequently publishing a paper in an international journal, and publishing some dozen or more online articles and papers. From my studio I produce and write, also continuing to read philosophy, planning to publish several books and papers. I established a publishing, media and record label - November Media Music.
