Bilingual technology consultant in Japan since 1987, based in Yokohama. CEO & founder of Tokyo-based eSolia Inc. — IT infrastructure, cloud, security, and bilingual project management for multinational companies operating in Japan.

I came to Japan through an unlikely path: studying biology at Allegheny College, playing drums semi-professionally on weekends to help pay for it, then landing a research position at Tokyo University through an introduction from my adviser. The Fortran algorithms I used to analyze experimental data turned out to be more interesting than the lab work, and that was the bridge to IT.

Before founding eSolia (https://esolia.co.jp/en/), I co-founded PTS, a professional IT training and services firm that was acquired by Datacraft Asia in 2000. Over the years I've led large-scale projects for multinationals in Japan — infrastructure rollouts, ERP implementations, IT restructuring — always as the bilingual bridge between global headquarters and local teams.

These days I build with SvelteKit, Hono, TypeScript, and Cloudflare Workers (D1, R2, KV). I maintain several open-source projects and publish at cogley.jp. I'm interested in protocol-level content ownership across ATProto (Bluesky), ActivityPub, and Nostr.
