Communication by Design. That's how I approach every new film project. It's been my course since 1993. Living in Chi town, I've worked and thrived by taking on a variety of film, video and new media projects, like commercials, documentaries, corporate, NFP, marketing videos, educational and Internet web development programs. I've learned a lot by diversifying, learning new technology and coming up with new creative concepts and best approach. Sure, I'd love to just direct my own projects, but like so many, I've learned new media through necessity and early on realized how cool it was, that I never get bored. I find that all good films, videos and digital motion media must contain four elements: motivation, entertainment, information and education, and with a clear vision, concept and structure, digital motion media will have an edge that engages people in the first five seconds… Got ya. One last thing, it has to be fun. Working in high definition video, my specialty is director of photography, videographer and all around good camera guy. Having done hundreds of films and videos from start to finish, I now lend a hand to many producers by directing, shooting, budgeting and helping to keep all the oars in the water… I’ve swam the channels a few times. Best thing about me, in this about.me world? I learned where to go… by doing it, where not to go… often by watching others, what to do… by experience and how to make it happen. I keep several big rabbits in my back pocket and a few rabbits feet for good luck. If I had to describe a "Rick Erwin about me," it would be, still loving what I do. Funny that most people work (and are often cranky) 50 weeks out of the year to get that two-week vacation, I get cranky when I'm not working. Coming up with new concepts, shooting new projects or dreaming about ways to make it all come together is what drives me.
