Joseph Riley
Hey all. My name is Joe and I'm a student in Northwestern University's inaugural Masters in Analytics class. My undergraduate studies were completed at Northeastern University, with concentrations in finance and accounting. I have key interests around machine learning, text analytics, and data visualization and application within the video game, consumer technology, and sports and entertainment industries.
In the past four plus years, I've worked at Business Intelligence Advisors in Boston, MA in research and data analyst roles. BIA is a venture-backed independent investment research and consulting firm whose products and services are centered around identifying and evaluating the veracity of information through deceptive linguistic patterns on various corporate disclosures.
Over the last year and half, my work focused on continued improvements to our automated platform in efforts to more closely align the firm's algorithmic behavioral assessment with that of human analysts. Heading into the MSiA program, I start with a solid financial and business education, some decent database skills, little to no pure programming (other than conceptual understandings and exposure to NLP techniques), and rather basic statistical knowledge. I am excited to see these four pathways enhance and intertwine from this point forward.
