Riley McGoldrick

Doctor, Volunteer, and Educator in Naarm (Melbourne), Victoria, Australia

Hi, I’m Riley. I’m a Doctor (BPT) working, learning and living on the unceded land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong peoples in Naarm (Melbourne), Victoria, Australia.

Having completed my training and internship at Western Health, I found myself inspired by the role of holistic care of patients. Particularly those from under-represented or under-privileged situations and backgrounds. I have a special interest in optimising point of care interventions for immigrant, refugee and people with non-English speaking backgrounds.

My interest in Sexual Health Medicine comes from its unique combination of high-quality clinical practice and its integration of emerging issues in basic science. This aligns with my passion for social research, dedication to social justice, and commitment to community building.

Adjacent to my clinical pursuits, I have a long-standing history in educating, researching and advocating for LGBTIQA+ health and Sexual health medicine.

After noticing a lack of representation and advocacy for queer doctors in training and education on queer patient care, I founded MDQueer - Melbourne Medical School's Queer student society.

I had the privilege of facilitating multiple roundtable discussions at the recent 12th International AIDS Society (IAS) Conference on HIV Science in Brisbane this year.

I am also honoured to be named one of thirty internationally recognised Young Leaders in the prestigious Young Leaders Programme by the International AIDS Society.

I am currently involved in projects looking at expanding and optimising accessibility of HIV testing, whilst also incorporating community voices and needs.
