Nicole Gray

Washington State

I began writing in the first grade. I was obviously a linguistic prodigy: the first story I wrote (and illustrated) was the yarn-bound tale of an outcast red schoolbus.

I've had a kind of "When Harry Met Sally" relationship with writing. The love was always there, but it was never the obvious choice for an exclusive relationship. As a freshman at the University of Washington, I thought I wanted to be a psych major. After nearly failing Psych 101, I was struck with the epiphany that psychology was a science and not an art. I majored in creative writing with an emphasis in poetry.

In my language-love dance, I spent seven years doing the classroom teacher tango. Students, poetry, rhetoric, Shakespeare... they are wonderful. But I longed to do the assignments I gave my kids. I wanted to dedicate myself to creating finished products I could look back on and admire. As a neophyte freelance writer, I am thrilled to do just that.

I am also Josh's wife and mama to a sweet boy named Nathaniel. I am exceedingly proud to hold both of these titles.
