Risk Abatement Strategies (RAS) is a country and political risk consultancy based in Calgary, Canada. Our number one priority is the security of the strategic information of our clients.

Unlike large, multi-client risk consultancies, the work we do for you will be exclusive to your firm and its strategic plan. Our product is not a commodity and will not be shared with any other client: we guarantee it. We produce specific country and political risk opinions that are tailored to the particular projects your firm plans to undertake.

Being based in the global oil & gas hub of Calgary allows RAS to concentrate on the particular needs of clients in the energy industry. We understand the oil & gas world and the needs of firms who are entering new, untried regional, subregional and national markets. Upon retention, we will conduct a full-spectrum country risk assessment including political, legislative/regulatory, economic, social and human security subsets. Our bespoke country risk deliverables are always accompanied by an execution opinion. RAS welcomes assignments for any country or region, but we have particular competencies in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Former Soviet Union. We work on short as well as long time-frame assignments and can scale the volume or ladder the timing of our outputs depending on your needs.

Our Principal Analyst has long experience in international banking and finance and resided outside Canada for the bulk of his career. He has an MBA and a PhD and is currently a Professor Finance at a business school in Calgary. He will leverage his extensive contacts in international organizations and NGOs, governments, and global investment banks, coupled with extensive data mining and, where necessary, travel to target nations in order to provide a complete and exclusive opinion on the proposed investment venue.
