Ritu Mehta
Toronto
Hello to all the new and wonderful students joining my class! I’m so excited about the year we have ahead of us and am looking forward to getting to know each and every single one of you!
So my full name is Ritu Mehta, I was born and raised in Toronto but come from an Indian background. In my family I have my mother, my father, and twin brothers! When I cut my hair really short we all look very similar and it’s quite funny! I’ve spent most of my life in Canada but I also went to school in India for a few years. Due to this I am completely fluent in Hindi, and I can speak Punjabi and Urdu. Hopefully I get a chance to teach everyone how to write their name in another language!
I love to do so many things and have lots of hobbies! I enjoy sports and played several while growing up. Now I usually watch them and my favorites are football and hockey. I think working out is very important and worked in a gym for six years. I guarantee that gym class with me will always be a fun time! I also love to cook, read, write post cards, and explore museums.
The number one thing on my ‘to do’ list has always been traveling. I spent one year backpacking around the world by myself; I visited 30 countries!!! This experience changed my life and I often use pictures and stories in my teaching. I think that learning about the world, different countries, peoples, and cultures, is essential in our learning. I would love the opportunity to take my class on a trip somewhere, but in the mean time we have technology to explore the world. We will always try to include world travel into our discussions, I’m sure many of my students have exciting stories to tell from their home countries as well! After my world trip I really wanted to make sure that being a teacher was the right path for me. So I decided to teach English in South Korea. I did this for two whole years, teaching private school, public school, and even at universities. I was able to live in another country, learn their language, eat lots of yummy food, and travel more too. After my two years I realized that teaching kids, no matter where they were from, was something that changed my life. I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me! So now here I am, on my path, teaching and learning every single day!
I am so excited to work with all my new students and I look forward to all the memories we will create over the next year!
Sincerely
Ritu Mehta
