New Mexico

Spent all of my life wandering, playing music and walking in beauty. Born in the Great Basin, central Utah. Learned songwriting at the knee of my eccentric but very loveable Grandfather. Learned a deep love of wild places from the same grandpa. To support my music habit I worked at a bit of everything, from wilderness guide, writer, oil field trash, truck driver, whatever came up. Love the mystery and history of the four corners. Download my music at reverbnation.com/rjgarn. All of the desert music was recorded on an old Fostex portable 4 track hooked up the battery of my 1965 International Truck. I would find remote canyons with good acoustics and record the desert songs where they should be recorded, outside under the wide blue sky. Due to a spinal cord disease i don't perform or record much, but most days you can still find me in some deserted corner of the four corners, doing a bit less than before, but still doing. After a decade getting my health in order I'm finally starting a new album, spring 2015. It will be recorded like my other albums, outdoors. With the advances in portable, digital equipment there'll be no more carrying truck batteries into canyons and the sound should be a lot crisper, no more tape hiss. I'm really excited to finally be back, doing what I love. The first recordings will be at a very mystical place, a large redrock amphitheater in New Mexico. The place has some dark history, supposedly haunted, if you believe in such things. I do believe history has a weight, a way that it lies on the land, which will fit into the first song I'll be recording, The Mankilling Kind. Wish me luck....adios....RJ Garn
