Hello, I’m Roderick Aycox from Alpharetta, Georgia, and I love to mountain bike. My experience with mountain biking started off with my previous passion for snow skiing. When I was younger, my family would take an annual skiing trip during Presidents Day Weekend. I became obsessed with skiing and the atmosphere that surrounded it. I skied every slope on Deer Valley, the mountain that we went to, and my favorite part would be sitting at the top of the mountain with my dad. I would look around and take in the beautiful scenery. The trees, ground, and the distance were all covered with a blanket of white snow. However, my ability to ski was cut short due to multiple injuries in my knees. While playing football, I tore every ligament in my knee, which has resulted in over 7 surgeries to repair. Initially, I was upset over never being able to take in such beautiful scenery while doing something I love to do, but that is when my friends suggested to take up mountain biking. During the summers, the ski resorts redesign the ski slopes into mountain biking courses, where you still can take in the beautiful scenery. While, to me, it isn’t as intoxicating as the thrills of skiing, it is a pretty close second. While I may not have initially enjoyed writing essays, throughout my time in class I've learned that there is beauty behind it. Similarly to being on top of the mountain, looking at the scenery before you, the wonderful world of literature is just like that. The world of literature if vast and breath taking, and there is so much to discover. However, similarly to my preference of skiing over mountain biking, I prefer to read literature over writing. However, as a became a writer, I have learned that there is still so much to enjoy about writing that is similar to what I enjoy about reading it.
