Rebecca-Lynn Koersvelt

Idealistic, imaginative, and passionate, I have a strong sense of my personal values and ideals and I tend to feel ill at ease in situations where I have to compromise these ideals due to external demands. Thoughtful and considerate, I find it easy to accept society's eccentrics and misfits without rendering judgment. Open and tolerant, I hate prejudice and stereotypes and I am sometimes liable to give people the benefit of the doubt in situations where others think, "you should know better." Because of my idealism, I sometimes neglect to give myself enough credit for the things I accomplish or so I have been told. I challenge myself to stop social injustice when I see it, but I have a hard time getting others to understand how they are being harmful to others. That being said, I will never stay in a situation where I feel I am being treated unfairly, even if I can not show others why I feel this way. I encourage others to do the same. A quiet leader, others will often follow my lead, however, I feel uncomfortable telling people that it would be in their best interest to do so, regardless about how I feel on the matter. My challenge in life is to balance authenticity with practicality and find a way to be true to myself and yet live in harmony with the world around me.

The photo in the background is of one of my three cats, Oliver. He loves to sit outside or, in the winter, to stare longingly out the window, something he and I have in common. I love animals and animal behavior so I always find it interesting to watch my pets and other animals I am close to and to document the amazing, strange and hilarious things that they do.
