I am a Product Development Engineer for a polyolefins company with a PhD in Chemical Engineering. My scientific background is in experimental research with soft matter materials including colloidal suspensions, polymers, and surfactants. The main picture on the page is of a 1mm long 'pillar' of polyacrylamide under an optical microscope. The surface of the hydrogel has been printed with a ruthenium-containing ink. It is the ruthenium complex in the ink gives it the orange color. You can read about the interesting behavior of this material in the most recent paper in my Google Scholar profile below.
