Robert Lopez is a multimedia journalist, student, and with a passion for covering sports.
Presently, Robert interns as a writer and recruiting analyst for rivals.com, covering Florida Gator football and recruiting, and also serves as a sports anchor and producer for WUFT-TV in Gainesville. Robert also works as a radio show host and update anchor at ESPN 850 WRUF, where he has also served as a beat reporter for Florida Gator football, softball, and lacrosse.
Robert’s work at ESPN 850 WRUF earned him the 2012-2013 Red Barber Award, which is awarded for outstanding achievement in sports radio at the University of Florida.
A handful of Robert’s sports radio stories and online writing samples have been aired and published on nation radio stations and recruiting websites.
Previously, Robert also served as a sports intern at the WFTV Channel 9 Eyewitness News in Orlando, Florida.
While sports are his passion, Robert actually got his start in public news radio, working for Florida’s 89.1 WUFT-FM in Gainesville, the area’s local NPR station. While at WUFT-FM, he served as an anchor for the station’s morning show, “Morning Edition,” as a producer and anchor for “The Front Page Edition of All Things,” and as a daily reporter. He also worked as a television news reporter for WUFT-TV as well.
It was his experience in news that helped Robert hone his skills as a writer and investigative reporter.
Robert will receive his B.S. in Telecommunication-News with an outside concentration in Sport Management from the University of Florida in December 2013.
