Ron Navarreta is a recognized criminal justice expert with varied skills and experience, both in the field as a first-responder and as a detective and administrative sergeant to the chief of police. Possessing a BA in criminal justice and currently pursuing his MPA, Ron's academic career is also notable and has helped hone his skill set greatly. During Ron Navarreta's time in operations, he served as a patrolman, field training officer and plainclothes investigator tasked with combatting gang and narcotics activity. It was during this period that Ron gained the bulk of his investigative experience and mastered the principles, methods and modern techniques of investigation. As the Detective Bureau Sergeant, Ron Navarreta conducted and supervised numerous comprehensive criminal and administrative investigations. Ron also managed the agency's investigative processes, reviewed ongoing investigations for accuracy and thoroughness and prepared detailed investigation status reports for the police chief and city officials. Given Ron's prowess as a communicator, both orally and in writing, one of his ancillary duties as the detective sergeant involved training inexperienced investigators and patrol officers in proper documentation techniques. Ron Navarreta's promotion to an administrative sergeant to the chief of police enabled him to hone a variety of skills beyond those of a policeman. Ron was in charge of recruitment and prescreening new police officers, which involved conducting preliminary background checks of prospective police officers and reserve officers. After becoming a POST certified police academy instructor, Ron Navarreta was also given the responsibility of creating and administrating the department's first official training division. Recruitment soared, and the newly developed training division successfully passed a required POST audit. Ron Navarreta's strength as a policy researcher and author became especially evident during his time as an administrative sergeant to the chief of police.
