Michael Robbins

Passionate about architecture, nature and history, I'm drawn to the craft of designing and building elegant, sustainable structures that inspire and help people to live meaningfully. I believe successful architecture comes from a collaborative process between owners, architects, engineers and builders. When all the “stakeholders” are allowed to contribute expertise the results transcend the ordinary. With 20+ years practicing architecture, I have a diverse background from healthcare to adaptive re-use.

For the past 10 years, I have focused on healthcare and academic design, attracted by the higher level of quality and the good they provide the community. My journey led me to explore alternative design delivery modes like integrated project delivery, evidenced based design, building information modeling, and sustainability.

My travels in Europe as a boy sparked an interest in architecture and led to an appreciation of how the built world can enrich people's lives. My interest in hospitality and retail design comes from this appreciation and the opportunity to create environments that animate spaces, enhancing people's enjoyment and integrating art and craft.

A history professor once said “nature and history are our best teachers”. Restoration and adaptive re-use provides the richness of history in our modern world and embraces needed sustainable principles. With growing scarcity of materials and resources, it makes sense more than ever to preserve our rich architectural legacy. New developments in technology makie it more feasible than ever to rehabilitate existing structures.

In summary, my passion is to design beautiful buildings in a collaborative process that respects nature. In an ever changing world, I believe technology can serve to facilitate a more humane life for all people. I look for opportunities to combine the new and old into a rich tapestry that expresses who we are today.
