Rahim played basketball at Wheeler High School where he was named as "Mr. Basketball" in back-to-back seasons, leading the school to a state title as a junior in 1994. He later attended college at the University of California, Berkeley for one year, after which he was drafted into the National Basketball Association|NBA by the Vancouver Grizzlies with the 3rd pick in 1996.
