Professor Robert Fettgather, PhD, has spent almost four decades teaching psychology courses at Mission College in Santa Clara, where he is an associate professor. Over the years Robert Fettgather has obtained several credentials, including community college instructor in psychology, community college counselor, and community college handicapped student programs and services instructor (emphasis on learning and developmental disabilities). He is also a certified stress management trainer through the Institute for Personality and Ability Testing.
Aside from his work as a professor, Dr. Fettgather has written papers and publications on topics related to education and psychology, especially focusing on adults with disabilities, and has given several presentations on adult education and adults with special needs in California. He also spent 26 years teaching adults with developmental disabilities through a community college program at Agnews Developmental Center in Santa Clara, where he taught courses in language development, sensorimotor development, and independent living skills.
In 1988, Robert Fettgather team-taught courses in educational psychology as an adjunct professor at the National University, and later he spent two years as a lecturer at San Jose State University, where he taught upper-division and graduate courses in behavior management of emotionally disturbed children and counseling the exceptional individual. He has presented at local and state conferences.
In 2011 Dr. Fettgather co-founded the Tashi Lhunpo Buddhist Sangha in Palo Alto, where until 2018, he served as a discussion leader for the community, whose mission was to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance. Outside his work, he still focuses on meditation and Buddhist studies, among his other passions and hobbies.
