Background
Born in Australia, Robert Geneid attended the University of New South Wales, where he earned two Bachelor’s degrees, first in Civil Engineering and later in Law.
Career Beginnings
Early in his career, Geneid worked for New South Wales’ Department of Public Works as an engineer, overseeing engineering developments of water supplies and sewerage in the state of New South Wales. He later served as an engineer for Bechtel Corporation on the Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia which at the time was one of the largest projects in the World.
Career transitions
Robert Geneid transitioned into the world of law later in his career. In his first role as solicitor, he worked for Freehill, Hollingdale & Page. He served as construction lawyer, representing the firm’s clients in disputes pertaining to construction and development. He later became a partner of Malleson Stephen Jacques law firm, where he headed the firm's office in Singapore and represented the firm's clients in South East Asia. As a solicitor, Robert Geneid was involved in hotel development work, the development of Malaysia’s longest pipeline, and to Indonesia’s largest coal mine.

Robert Geneid’s professional background in engineering and law, combined with his expertise on South Asia and love for the environment, has served as an asset in his subsequent roles in Malaysia in development and tourism. Geneid serves as managing director of the Malaysian based Kumpulan Construction, where he oversaw the development and construction of township of Taman Tunku, the Kuching port, and the Kuching Stadium.
He currently serves as managing director of Borsarmulu Resort where he manages the Royal Mulu Resort and the tourism operations of Mulu National Park, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. In its upgrade to a Marriott resort, the Royal Mulu Resort will soon become the Marriott group’s first nature, eco-friendly resort.
