Born and raised in Georgia, Robert Hume Campo has built his life and career on diligence, bravery, and a strong sense of responsibility. These qualities were evident from a young age and have remained central throughout his professional journey. He began his career as a Lieutenant in the Fire Marshal office in Roswell, GA, where his interest in construction safety was sparked. He devoted significant time to reviewing construction blueprints to ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes, developing a sharp eye for detail and risk management.
Robert advanced his career by accepting a position as a Safety Professional with General Motors Corporation in Rayong, Thailand. This opportunity marked a significant step forward in his professional development and required him to relocate internationally. He was tasked with ensuring safe construction practices on a large-scale project, taking on increased responsibility with determination and focus.
His career path led him to the Marshall Islands, where Robert Hume managed dual projects under contract with the US Corps of Engineers. In this role, his responsibilities extended beyond safety to include serving as an environmental liaison. He ensured all operations complied with EM-385 standards, maintaining safety and ecological integrity throughout the projects.
After returning to the United States, Hume Campo continued to apply his knowledge and experience to heavy civil engineering projects. He worked with Kiewit Construction and Ames Construction, contributing to safety oversight in challenging environments such as active railroad construction, tunneling, open-pit mining, and related operations. His wide range of safety certifications supported his ability to lead effectively in high-risk fields.
Robert also held safety oversight roles for NavFac and Corps of Engineers projects across several states, further broadening his impact. In addition to his field responsibilities, he conducted safety training programs that strengthened team awareness and discipline. His consistent, methodical approach earned the trust and respect of those he worked with.
In 2004, Robert was honored as the AZ AGC Safety Professional of the Year, recognizing his dedication to safety and excellence in leadership. Beyond his professional work, he served as an EMT and firefighter. He supported charitable organizations such as Toys for Tots, Shriners, Vietnam Veteran Memorial, Wounded Warriors, ASPCA, and the Humane Society.
